Ornellaia 2007 “L’ Armonia”
May 2010 hailed the release of the vintage Ornellaia 2007. Each vintage bestows upon Ornellaia its own unique character, and the 2007 harvest yielded a wine of remarkable breed that stands out for its superb ‘harmony’ (‘L’Armonia’). We will remember this vintage for its regular climatic conditions, from Spring through Autumn, with temperatures slightly lower than average. This resulted in a fine balance overall, first through the vines’ various stages of growth, and then in the development of the wines in the cellar. We found that no one individual component (levels of sweetness and alcohol, aromatic compounds, or structure of the tannins) predominated over the other. On the contrary, they are all linked harmoniously by a common denominator, which has produced a wine that, even at this stage, displays a distinctive personality and is marked by great approachability and charm. In short, we can say that the 2007 vintage brought together both an exceptional quality and an excellent production. This is the sign of a great vintage and one that is the offspring of balanced weather conditions and balanced vegetative growth in the vines. A truly ‘harmonious’ set of circumstances!
The Artists Ghada Amer & Reza Farkhondeh
Ghada Amer and Reza Farkhondeh are New York–based artists who often incorporate inspiration from Eastern ornamental traditions reinterpreted through a contemporary lens.Their artistic expressiveness explores various thematics, from reflection on the spoken and written language, to themes related to the condition of women, from eroticism to drawing reflecting influences from a variety of sources. Such thematics take shape in their art as paintings, drawings, sculptures and gardens. Ghada Amer was born in Cairo and lived in France; she now lives in New York since the1990s. Her works have been exhibited at a host of exhibitions in America, Europe, and the East. The creation of the labels which dress a very limited number of large size bottles of Ornellaia 2007 Vendemmia d’Artista L’Armonia was executed by Ghada Amer in collaboration with Reza Farkhondeh, an artist with whom she has been working since 2000 in producing drawings, prints, and monoprints. Reza Farkhondeh was born in Iran, then lived in France, and currently resides in New York. Through his works, he explores the perception of reality and the various ways in which the most intimate aspects of our contemporaneous universe arise from it.
For the Harmony (‘L’Armonia’) of Ornellaia 2007, Ghada Amer and Reza Farkhondeh have created the site-specific installation garden, where the letters compose the phrase Happily*Ever*After, reminiscent of a fairy tales’ happy ending. Placed in front of the entrance to the winery, the work of art, inspired by the romantic tradition, conjures up the world of fairy tales and their various narratives. The circular shape and the fragrant jasmine that entwines around each letter, confer to the artists’ creation a distinctive harmony and allegorical character.
The creation of the labels which dress a very limited number of large size bottles of Ornellaia 2007 Vendemmia d’Artista L’Armonia was executed by Ghada Amer in collaboration with Reza Farkhondeh. Each label forms an element of the phrase Happily*Ever*After. The Double Magnum (3 litres) labels are executed by drypoint etching on paper, in six different series which have a different colour. The labels of the Imperial bottles (6 litres) and the unique Salmanazar bottle (9 litres) are in fabric enriched by embroidery. Each bottle is numbered and individually signed by the two artists, Ghada Amer and Reza Farkhondeh.
To interpret the ‘Harmony’ (‘L’Armonia’) of Ornellaia 2007, the artists Ghada Amer and Reza Farkhondeh have created original paintings with collage and a limited edition series of etched labels which adorn three exclusive sets of large size bottles of Ornellaia 2007. On 28 April, Tenuta dell’Ornellaia will unveil the complete series of Ghada Amer and Reza Farkhondeh’s labels at a gala dinner at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. The limited edition series of 127 collectible bottles of Ornellaia 2007 Vendemmia d’Artista, interpret the theme of ‘Harmony’ (‘L’Armonia’) through the phrase “Happily*Ever*After”, inspired from the site-specific garden installation created by Ghada Amer, placed in front of the entrance to the winery.
