Palazzo Sacrati Strozzi, in Florence’s Piazza Duomo, was the venue on December 9 for one of the most prestigious of the “Eventi Vignaioli e Vignerons,” in which noted wine experts focused their palates on that great vintage, 1997.
In the presence of the top officials of the Region of Tuscany, Ornellaia stood shoulder to shoulder with the others greats, Badia a Coltibuono, Boscarelli, Casanova di Neri, Castello di Fonterutoli, Felsina, Fontodi, Le Pupille, Ruffino, Tenuta di Capezzana, and Selvapiana, and walked off with an impressive 95 points. Sommelier Andrea Gori characterised this winner of a wine thusly: “Scented oak notes, along with moss and juniper, dried plum and bramble preserves. A magnificent palate, delicate and perfectly balanced, rigorous, vibrant, sapid and smooth at the same time: spectacular.”
